Tom, thanks for this news. Many challenges of living and investing in Africa would dissapear if the issue of poor infrastructure was tackled once and for all! It is the one sector that all other industries including the much launded agriculture, minerals, and tourism depend for growth and expansion.

IFC, other creditors and private investors have spent a lot of money on the continent in a lot of areas and I am glad that most of them have decided to concentrate mostly on infrastructure as the basic foundation.

Without proper transport (air, water, road, and rail) and reliable energy (solar, electricity, biofuel, etc), supply, Africa will continue to lag behind. Even with the increased global attention the continent is receiving as a growth location, most would-be investors are reluctant to go ahead mainly due to indadequate and sometimes non-existent infrustructure! IFC, China, and other big time lenders and investors are leading the way in showing confidence that these challenges can be solved and hopefully others will follow them soon.
